De Waag on Nieuwestad in Leeuwarden is one of the oldest still-standing buildings in the city. As early as 1483, a weigh house was first mentioned at this location - a place where goods were weighed and inspected for trade. The current building dates from approximately 1596 and has undergone numerous transformations since then.
