Our story

Hi, I am Maria, the person behind Marikaato.

Marikaato was shaped by years of living abroad and experiencing different cultures firsthand. Moving between countries made one thing clear: the most meaningful souvenirs are not mass-produced objects, but items that reflect real identity, history, and place.

After more than a decade of travel and expatriate life, I became increasingly aware of how often cultural products are reduced to generic designs. As someone with a background in art and a career in marketing, creating an alternative felt like a natural step.

Marikaato is built on the idea that souvenirs and creative products can be both aesthetically refined and culturally grounded. Each design is developed with intention—drawing from local architecture, heritage, and stories, and translating them into objects that feel relevant today.

The goal is not just to create products, but to create connection. Whether someone is visiting a place or already living in it, these items are meant to offer a more personal way to engage with culture and history.

From illustrated postcards to embroidery kits, every product invites a slower, more thoughtful interaction—either by learning something new or by making something by hand.

Marikaato is an evolving collection, with new products and formats in development, all guided by the same principle: culture should be experienced, not just observed.
