The Oldehove is Leeuwarden's most recognizable building - an unfinished church tower that began to sink and lean during its construction. Building began in 1529 under the direction of master builder Jacob van Aaken, but in 1532 he was replaced by Cornelis Frederiks. In 1533, construction was definitively halted - and the tower still stands today, crooked and proud.
