The Leaning Tower of Leeuwarden
The Oldehove is Leeuwarden's most recognizable building — an unfinished church tower that began to sink and lean during its construction. Construction began in 1529 under the direction of master builder Jacob van Aaken, but in 1532 he was replaced by Cornelis Frederiks. In 1533, construction was definitively halted — and so the tower still stands today, leaning and proud.
On the back of this black-and-white postcard is a historical fact about the Oldehove. A card that takes you back to the early 16th century.
